The transfer window has closed until the summer and once again I got sucked into the phenomenon that is ‘deadline day’
Every deadline day I wake up with a slight hope of a signing for United. Why? I don’t know. Maybe it’s like when you were a kid and your friends got new toys and you wanted one as well.
Every deadline day I turn into an envious little kid. For the whole day I watch keenly to Sky Sports New hoping for them to go to Manchester correspondent.
However, even since the last minute drama of Dimitar Berbatov in 2008 United have not signed anyone on deadline day. So for the last three years every-time a Manchester club was trying to sign a player it was Manchester City. I always say to myself: “just turn it off watch something else and forget about transfers and if something comes up then so be it” so I would immediately turn on Two and A Half Men or Scrubs or some other channel, but as soon as the advertisements come on I’m right back to channel 405 transfixed once again to deadline day.
Yet I always hang on to a glimmer of hope and this year that glimmer was Charlie Adams. News broke out that Charlie Adams odds of him joining United had reduced to 1/4 and there it was my glimmer of hope. I once again got myself into a giddy humor believing that United were going to sign someone, even though I really knew that the deadline would come and no new name would joining the club.
So the clock ticked down to 11 and there was no Charlie Adams…once again I had built up a nothing story.
I have learned though that United have been more professional and not gung-ho about their signings. Usually a signing would be made before the transfer window e.g Lindergaard, Larrson, Hernandez etc… which is much more relaxing, but a part of me always learns for that bit of drama.
Every year I promise myself not to get caught up to it and to learn from the last time, but I never have and I never will. It will be no surprise if I find myself at the end of August once again glued to Sky Sports News and the internet…why? Because I am a Idiot.
